Dmitry Kholodnyak was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, in 1973. He received the Diploma of Radio Engineer and Ph.D. degree in Antennas and Microwave Devices, both from St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University 'LETI'. Currently he is an Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Department of Microelectronics & Radio Engineering at the same University.
The research interests of Dr. Kholodnyak are focused on microwave applications of advanced materials and technologies such as high-temperature superconductors (HTS), metamaterials, low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC), non-Foster circuits to design of novel microwave devices with improved characteristics and enhanced functionality. He gained over 20-year experience in practical design and investigation of high-performance integrated microwave devices namely filters, duplexers, directional couplers, power dividers, phase shifters, and antennas for telecommunications, RFID, and other applications.
As a visiting researcher on microwave superconductivity, Dmitry Kholodnyak was with the Research Institute on Microwave and Optical Communications (IRCOM, now XLIM), the University of Limoges, France (1995, 1998) and with the Research Centre of Karlsruhe (now Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Germany (2003).
Dmitry Kholodnyak is a recipient of the 2003 State Prize of the Russian Federation awarded to young scientists for outstanding works in science and technology (the Prize was awarded for investigation and design of planar microwave devices based on high-temperature superconductors).
Dr. Kholodnyak authored and co-authored 3 monographs, over 30 journal papers, more than 120 conference papers, and 7 patents. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Microwave Science and Technology (Hindawi Publishing Corp.). He has also served as a reviewer for Applied Physics Letters; IEEE Transactions of Microwave Theory and Techniques; IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters; IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters; IET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation; International Journal of RF and Microwave Computer Aided Engineering (John Wiley & Sons); International Journal of Microwave and Wireless Technology (Cambridge University Press); Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications (Taylor & Francis); Progress in Electromagnetic Research – PIER (EMW Publishing); Photonics and Nanostructures – Fundamentals and Applications (Elsevier Science BV).
Dr. Kholodnyak is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the European Microwave Association (EuMA).
